EYEBROW MICROBLADING
Microblading is not your typical permanent makeup, nor is it gels, eyebrow pencils or the tattooing of your eyebrows. Rather, it’s a semi-permanent sort of embroidery of your eyebrows made look just like real hairs.
If you need to fully reconstruct, define, add a slight arch, cover gaps, or fill-in over plucked brows, Microblading is for you.
How it Works
During the microblading process, a very fine blade is used to draw on individual strokes one by one and deposit pigments into the epidermis. Because we’re impacting color closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine. This process is very detailed and can take around two hours to complete. Generally, the first hour is spent drawing the shape in with temporary pencil markings. It is the longest and most important step. It is also the moment when the shape is determined. The shape is customized to every customer’s facial contours, etc.
Next, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area. This helps minimize discomfort. It’s followed by a liquid anesthetic. For most customers the process is painless, although some have experienced a slight discomfort.
Once your new set of eyebrows are in place there is essentially no down time, although there is a healing process that can take up to 30 days. A follow-up is recommended one month after the initial procedure. The touch-up takes about 45 minutes.
Microblading is low maintenance. After healing, you can rub them and enjoy all the activities you would normally enjoy, including swimming and exercise. There is no need for special care. Expect to return for a brief touch-up every six months.
Prior to Appointment
To ensure best results, make sure your health is in good condition. Get enough rest and eat right.
- 72 hours before:
- Avoid alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen.
- 1 Week before:
- Stop taking the following supplements: Vitamin E, B6, Omega-3, Ginko-biloba, St. Johns Wort.
- You may resume taking your supplements 72 hours after procedure.
- 24 hours before:
- Avoid caffeine and exercise.
- You may want to wash your hair prior to appointment because you will need to avoid the shower for a few days after procedure.
Healing Schedule
Days 1 & 2:
The eyebrows are about 25% darker and wider than when healed. Do not be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size than you desire. This is all part of the process. Your skin is red underneath the pigment, causing it to appear darker. There is some swelling although difficult to actually see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside.
Day 3:
Eyebrows start to itch and will appear thicker in texture. Exfoliation begins. Exfoliation will cause the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow to flake away, and a more narrow appearance will result.
Days 4 & 5:
The skin begins to flake, peeling from the outside edges first. DO NOT pick at or try to remove any flaking skin. Allow skin to naturally fall. New skin will heal over the pigmented area and result in a softer appearance of your eyebrows. Expect your eyebrows to appear softer and grayer for a few days until the color clarifies.
Aftercare
Taking care of your eyebrows after microblading is very important for producing a beautiful and lasting result.
- It’s extremely important not to get the brows wet during the healing process. 10 days is a safe estimate for healing, however, individual results may vary.
- Use a clear triple antibiotic ointment for 10 days. When applying ointments, use the following procedure:
Each morning and night / before a shower or workout: Apply a pea size amount of ointment for both brows, leave it on while in the shower or working out. It is very important to keep the brows covered with ointment while in shower or during a strenuous workout to prevent moisture from penetrating.
To remove ointment:
- After shower/ workout, use a dry tissue to dab gently across each brow once to remove excess ointment. When light flaking or scabbing appears, do not wipe – only dab. You must be GENTLE, do not pull off the scabs, prematurely. Your brows should remain dry all day and all night. Following this procedure will ensure the formation of thin scabs which help with color retention. Keep out of the sun for ten days; afterwards wearing sunscreen for longevity of your tattoo.
- As instructed, apply the ointments with freshly washed hands or a Q-tip. Never touch the procedure area without washing your hands immediately before.
- Do not scrub, rub or pick at the epithelial crust that forms. Allow it to flake off by itself. If it is removed before it is ready, the pigment underneath could be pulled out.
- Do not use any makeup on the brows before the healing process is complete.
- After the healing is complete, you may go back to your regular cleansing and makeup routine. Avoid scrubbing the area. Avoid exfoliating products on the actual microbladed brow.
- FAILURE TO FOLLOW AFTER-CARE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN INFECTIONS, PIGMENT LOSS OR DISCOLORATION.
Warnings
- Do Not use any Retin-A or Glycolic Acids or similar products in the brow area during or after healing.
- Do Not scrub or pick treated areas.
- Do Not expose area to the sun or tanning beds.
- Avoid swimming pool for 21 days.
- Do Not dye, tint, tweeze, wax or thread eyebrows for 3 weeks after the procedure.
What is normal?
- Mild swelling, itching, light scabbing, light bruising and dry tightness. Ice packs can be used for swelling and bruising. Aftercare ointments work well for scabbing and tightness.
- Too dark and slightly uneven appearance. After 2-7 days the darkness will fade, and once any swelling dissipates unevenness usually disappears. If it is too dark or still a bit uneven after 4 weeks then we will make adjustments during the touch up appointment.
- Color change or color loss. As the procedure area heals, the color will lighten and sometimes seem to disappear in places. This can all be addressed during the touch up appointment which is why touch up is necessary. The procedure area has to heal completely before we can address any concerns. Total, complete healing takes about four weeks.
- Need a touch up months later. A touch up may be needed 6 months to 1 year after the first touch up procedure depending on your skin, medications, and sun exposure and products used. Your first touch up will be 30 days after the first session. If most of the hair strokes have faded, the entire procedure will need to be repeated.
- Caution: If the skin around the eyebrows experiences any rash or small pimples, this is usually a reaction to the numbing solution and should go away by itself in a couple weeks. Please, don’t pick. Call immediately if this occurs so a technician can make note of the reaction and follow up to ensure this is not a more serious situation.
